Protesters storm the APC secretariat and demand the dismissal of the FCT president

Hundreds of All Progressives Congress supporters besieged the party's national secretariat on Tuesday morning to demand the immediate removal of FCT Chairman Abdulmalik Usman.

While chanting solidarity songs and displaying several banners reading: "Expel Malik Usman", "We say no to FCT impunity", the protesters, which included men and women wearing the hijab, insisted APC National Chairman Senator Abdullahi Adamu addresses them.

The embattled FCT APC has been embroiled in an internal crisis that has pitted Usman against party supporters, who have vowed to oust him and elect new leaders.

Among other things, the chairman of the FCT party has been accused of being an inflexible leader who operates autocratically without soliciting input from other stakeholders.

The rowdy and boisterous session that hosted the protest nearly brought business activities to a standstill as security guards attached to the secretariat, currently under renovation, struggled to restore order.

One of the protesters, who identified himself as Yusuf, told our correspondent he was determined to push through with his demands.

He said, "Party stakeholders must recognize the 2021 FCT Congress. Malik has no choice but to go. We have endured his excesses and impunity for too long. But he seems to have the support of the national president of APC.

“Otherwise, we see no reason why he has not yet taken serious action on our petition. This is why many of us have come out today to express our anger by saying 'No' to party impunity."

Although the drama occurred shortly after Adamu arrived at the secretariat, he did not show up to address disgruntled party members.

Efforts to speak with National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka about the matter proved unsuccessful.

At the time of filing this report, he has not taken a call or replied to the text message sent to his phone.
