Report that banks are rejecting old naira notes, Soludo tells Anambra residents

Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has urged residents of the state to transact old naira notes and report banks that refuse to accept the notes.

>

Making the announcement on his Facebook page on Monday, Soludo noted that CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele had confirmed to him that commercial banks could distribute and accept old banknotes from customers.

He wrote, "Commercial banks have been instructed by the Central Bank to distribute the old banknotes and also receive the same as customer deposits. Commercial bank tellers must generate the codes for deposits and there is no limit to the number of times an individual or company can make deposits.

“The Governor of CBN gave the directive during a meeting of the Bankers Committee held on Sunday, March 12, 2023. The Governor, Dr. Godwin Emefiele, personally confirmed the above to me in a conversation telephone Sunday evening.

"Anambra residents are therefore advised to freely accept and transact their business with the old banknotes (N200; N500; and N1000) as well as the new banknotes.

“Residents should report any bank that refuses to accept deposits of the old banknotes. The Anambra State Government will not only report such a bank to the CBN, but will also immediately close the failing branch.” < /p>
