Residents scramble as soldiers and police clash in Osun

Pandemonium erupted in Osogbo, the state capital of Osun, on Saturday evening when armed soldiers and officers from the state police command engaged in an armed duel that lasted about an hour .

As gunfire rang out outside the Dugbe Divisional Police Station located around the Old Garage area of ​​the city, the warring military and police fired sporadically in a free-for-all battle.

At the time of filing this report, the cause of the fight was still unknown.

But a source revealed that trouble started when one of the police officers allegedly clashed with a soldier at the Ajegunle Parts Market, a shopping center next to Dugbe Police Station.

According to the sources, the clash between them snowballed into a fiasco when the soldiers swooped down on the policeman and beat him like a fool with another policeman who tried to intervene.

This drew the attention of other police officers who have their offices around the scene of the incident, who rallied to free their colleagues, but it led to a larger fight between them.

An eyewitness who identified himself as Adetoye Adeleye told our reporter that some escaped members of the public even climbed fences to save their lives during the crash.

As of this writing, no fatalities have been recorded, but some officers are believed to have been injured.

In her comment, State Police Command Public Relations Officer Ms. Yemisi Opalola confirmed the incident but said one police officer was slightly injured and the matter was resolved amicably.

She, however, asked members of the public to continue their normal activities undisturbed.
