Richard Branson says Elon Musk showed up at his house barefoot in the middle of the night: 'He's a night animal'
Talk about a jump scare!
In a new interview with The Sunday Times, billionaire Richard Branson revealed that the day before his first flight with his space exploration company Virgin Galactic, he received a surprise visit from Elon Musk and his infant son, X Æ A-12.
"I woke up two hours earlier than expected and jumped out of bed, then realized I had the wrong time, but by then I was wide awake" , Branson said of the early morning hours. July 11, 2021, which he thinks is around 2:30 a.m.
Branson was at home in New Mexico at the time.
After waking up, Branson said he went to his kitchen to find a barefooted Musk (holding his son) who had "decided to surprise him" to wish him well ahead of the trip.
>"Basically, it's a nocturnal animal. It doesn't really sleep at night and sleeps during the day," Branson said. "We made a teapot and sat outside under the stars and caught up."
The billionaires documented their impromptu meeting on Twitter, which Musk would purchase less than a year later.
After Branson's flight landed, Musk stood at the launch pad in support.
Branson also called Musk "the Henry Ford of his generation" and called him "extremely intelligent and even more driven".
Musk's space exploration company, SpaceX, made the first-ever private human vehicle flight of 2020 with the Dragon. Musk himself has yet to make the trip.

Virgin Galactic is expected to begin launching commercial spaceflight in the second quarter of 2023.
