Rights group condemns attacks on DSS over Emefiele investigation
The Marine Ecology and Rights Organization coordinator, Musa Saidu, has warned against interfering in the investigation into the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.
Saidu told Nigeria's news agency, NAN, that the attacks on the DSS over allegedly looted N70 trillion funds hidden in banks were unnecessary.
The activist noted that the agency was doing its job and “as ordered by the president without bias.”
Emefiele remains a public officer in charge of public property and can be investigated, Saidu pointed out.
He said the CBN chief was facing allegations of embezzlement of income, embezzlement of agricultural loans and fraudulent practices in Forex transactions.
“The DSS investigation into the CBN Governor is lawful and should be cherished by any patriotic Nigerian,” he said.
Saidu condemned "the sponsored campaign", noting that such "is sabotage and subversion of state affairs".
He expressed his faith in the rule of law and instructed security agencies to “arrest anyone found guilty in government.”
