Ryan Sidebottom: Australian fast bowler quits after five years with Warwickshire
The 33-year-old Bears right-hand paceman made an immediate impact after arriving in the Midlands to play for Berkswell in the Birmingham League.
After getting his chance from the Bears, he took 23 wickets in six matches to earn a one-year deal - and then took some 25 more in 2018.
But he missed most of summer 2019 with a shoulder injury .
And, after the 2020 season interrupted by the Covid, injuries did not help him regain his place.
Sidebottom, who made two appearances on the Bears' title-winning team in 2021, go back to Australia at short notice, but still hoping to land another contract with an English county.
He was loaned to the Derbyshire in April but returned to Warwickshire to make his final appearance for the Bears in the penultimate game of the season - the loss to Gloucestershire in Bristol, a week before their stunning escape from relegation.
>"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity given to me at Edgbaston," he said . "I will look back on my career with the Bears with great pride. Winning the county championship will always be a highlight of my career."
