Former Senate Speaker Bukola Saraki congratulated Nigerian Muslims and other worshipers around the world on this year's Eid-el-Kabir festival , while urging them not to tire of praying for peace, security and prosperity throughout the world.

In a Sallah message signed Friday by the head of his media office, Yusuph Olaniyonu, and published in Abuja, Saraki reminded Muslims of the importance of Eid-el -Kabir which symbolized obedience to Allah, genuine sacrifice and faith in their creator as well as the desire for peace.

He further advised Muslims to always demonstrate these values in their daily activities.

He advised members of Nigeria's ummah to use the occasion of the festival to pray for peace, security, unity and prosperity in the country, as the absence of these threatened to disintegrate Nigeria and to pit its people against each other. .

The statement read in part: "It can only be noted that this period of Sallah has only heralded endemic poverty, unemployment and anger in our country, as the inhabitants of millions of homes cannot happily celebrating Sallah due to economic hardship, violence that has displaced their property, the resulting loss of loved ones due to the untoward activities of non-state actors who have waged war on the state, members of the family who are held in the den of the kidnappers and of those who suffer from various ailments without being able to pay for good health care.

"The situation in the country is very serious and threatens to drive out the happiness of the earth. Even so, millions of people will go to the various prayer grounds on the day of Sallah to give glory to Allah All- Powerful to have them preserved and to make more demands on the ultimate provider.I enjoin those who are fortunate enough to visit the places of prayer to remember to pray for our country and our fellow citizens, who wish to join in the prayers but were unable to do so due to some unfortunate incident or other beyond their control.

"Nigerian Muslims should stand together and pray for the country and the people. We should ask Allah to forgive our sins and restore peace and prosperity to our country. We should appeal to Allah Almighty so that he heals our land and helps us defeat all those who waged wars against the country.

“Muslims should use the Eid-el-Kabir holiday to rededicate themselves to Allah and truly demonstrate the values recommended by our religion in our actions, activities and dealings. Those who are fortunate enough to have must share with the less privileged and live happily and with tolerance for people of other religions and languages.

"As we prepare to go to the polls next year to elect new leaders, we should pray that Allah guides us to do what is right and work honestly to ensure that elections produce leaders. whose policies, programs and projects restore unity, peace, stability, prosperity, inclusiveness, justice, equity and patriotism in our country.

“It is necessary to reiterate my usual prayers for the men and women of the various security services who are on the front lines and are truly fighting to secure the country and end the threat posed by the deviants who seek to destroy the country. May the protection of Allah Almighty be upon these patriotic and loyal security officials and grant them victory over the warmongers.

“Once again, I congratulate all our Muslim brothers and sisters and wish them a happy Sallah. Eid Mubarak. Ma salaam,” Saraki said.
