Author Salman Rushdie is still urs in critical condition but "his usual fiery and provocative sense of humor remains intact", says his son.
Zafar Rushdie said his father suffered life-altering injuries but was able to talk to his family.
< p class="ssrcss-1q0x1qg -Paragraph eq5iqo00">Mr. Rushdie, 75, was seriously injured after being stabbed on stage at an event in New York State.
He faced years of death threats for his novel The Satanic Verses, which some Muslims consider blasphemous.
The man accused of Friday's attack has pleaded not guilty of attempted murder.
"After Friday's attack, my father remains in critical condition in hospital and is receiving intensive medical care", tweeted Zafar Rushdie.
The family were "extremely relieved" when Mr Rushdie was taken off a ventilator on Saturday, he said, adding that his father had could "say a few words".
"Although his life-changing injuries are severe, his usual fiery and defiant sense of humor remains intact," he said.
