Sarabande set to hit Miami Beach, with second US fundraiser on November 28

LONDON — Sarabande, the foundation created by Lee Alexander McQueen to support emerging artists and designers, should take Miami Beach on November 28.

The London-based organization will host a fundraising dinner at the Standard Spa in Miami Beach to mark the start of Miami Art Week. The dinner comes six months after the organization held its first major New York event, "Dream With Sarabande," at The Standard High Line.

Sarabande Director Trino Verkade described the dinners as "family events that communicate our mission to supporting artists with fearless creativity who need our help to realize their visions.”

Francesca Amfitheatrof, president of American Friends of Sarabande, said "finding your voice, leaving a mark, pushing the limits is what Sarabande helps artists do. Imagination will be the priceless currency of the future and that is what Sarabande cultivates."

Sarabande's future goal is to bring its physical format to the United States with studios, galleries and educational spaces in New York.

The organization has so far supported more than 150 fashion and jewelry designers, painters, sculptors , videographers, performers and many more, including Craig Green, Molly Goddard, Auroboros and Bianca Saunders.

Creatives receive subsidized studio space, mentorship and scholarships. Their goal is to create art, but also to make connections, forge collaborations and create communities among peers.

Before dinner in New York last May, guests were encouraged to participate in a drawing in live from two Sarabande performers dressed in larger-than-life costumes known as Squishes.

At dinner, the tablecloth was illustrated with the name of each guest. It also featured cheeky doodles, while each place setting had an artistic plate each guest could take home. The plates were designed by Sir Ridley Scott, Alexander McQueen, Jake Chapman and Amfitheatrof and manufactured by one of the oldest suppliers of English porcelain in England.
