Scottish widows were so cruel after my wife died of cancer

In 1999 my wife and I took out a lifetime security plan for Scottish widows which would pay out £44,875 if one of us died. After a battle with cancer, my wife passed away in May. I informed Scottish Widows that month and sent the required documents. I've called every month since and finally filed a complaint in early August. After another three weeks, I was told that my complaint had not yet been assigned. I was promised an update within 24 hours but none came. I have bills that need to be paid and such poor service at this difficult time is very stressful.AH, Stockport

Such communications from poor quality are at best unacceptable at times but inexcusably heartless in this case. Scottish Widows was able to process your request within two days of contacting me. The prospect of a title was the prompt. This is £500 compensation for distress, £653 for lost interest and £94 to cover three months interest on your mortgage which you had planned to pay off with the money.
