Senate president mourns death of media aide

Mohammed Isa, the Special Assistant to the President of the Senate in charge of the media died on Friday, an official announced.

Ola Awoniyi, the Senate President's special media adviser, said in a statement in Abuja on Saturday that Mr Isa died while being treated for injuries sustained after a car accident on the road Minna-Suleja in Niger.

"In submission to the will of God, we deeply regret to announce the passing of Special Assistant for the Media to the President of the Senate, Mohammed Abdulkadir Isa," he said.

Mr. Awoniyi said the deceased was buried in Funtua, Katsina State, in accordance with Islamic rites.

"The President of the Senate expressed his sadness at Isa's tragic death, he described Isa's death as shocking, heartbreaking and a great loss.

"He said that Isa was very dedicated to his duties, that he had never been found wanting and that he was very professional in his vocation as a journalist.

"Lawan offered his condolences to his family, colleagues and the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) for the loss, he also sympathized with the government and people of Katsina State for the incident.

"He prayed to Allah to grant his loved ones the courage to bear the irreparable loss, to forgive his sins and to grant him Aljannah Firdaus."

Mr. Isa was a reporter with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) before being appointed Media Assistant by former Senate Speaker Olusola Saraki.

The appointment was renewed after Ahmed Lawan succeeded Mr. Saraki as President of the Senate.
