Seven times Sir Alex Ferguson had a huge fight with a Man Utd player

Sir Alex Ferguson was famous for his man-management skills at Manchester United, but the Scotsman could always get carried away at any time.

The manager was never afraid to speak his mind and faced many of United's big stars during his 27 years at Old Trafford.

Here are seven United players who have all felt Ferguson's wrath and infamous hair dryer treatment.

Roy Kean

Ferguson and Keane are two of football's greatest characters and ultimately their personalities clashed.

The midfielder sent shockwaves through Old Trafford when he dismissed his teammates during an interview with MUTV after an infamous 4-1 loss to Middlesbrough.

Ferguson showed no mercy in stripping him of the captaincy and this interview ultimately marked the end of Keane's United career.

Time did not heal the wounds and they both reignited the feud by criticizing each other in the media on several occasions.

"I wouldn't forgive Ferguson," Keane told Off The Ball in 2019. "The media spin, the way I seemingly upset everyone, it all just doesn't make sense.

"Ferguson came out afterwards and said he always did the best at Manchester United. Anything."

Jaap Stam

Stam enjoyed incredible success in his three years at United, winning the treble and a treble of league titles, but that didn't stop him falling foul of Ferguson.

The manager was reportedly infuriated by Stam's autobiography, in which he claimed he was poached by United and Ferguson ordered his players to dive into European matches.

Unsurprisingly, the defender was sent to Lazio a few weeks later.

David Beckham

The couple originally had a father-son type relationship when Beckham rose through the academy ranks to become a key part of Ferguson's United squad.

However, the United manager was fed up with Beckham's celebrity lifestyle and felt it overshadowed his work as a professional footballer.

Following a 2-0 FA Cup fifth round loss to Arsenal in February 2003, an enraged Ferguson kicked into the dressing room and it hit Beckham just above his eye left.

While most managers would apologize, Ferguson was furious with Beckham because the story leaked to the media.

“The next day the story was in the press,” Ferguson said in his 2013 autobiography. “In public, a group of Alices pointed out the damage the boot inflicted. It was around this time that I told the board that David had to leave. »

wayne rooney

Rooney may be United's all-time leading goalscorer, but the striker still enjoyed a number of high-profile clashes with Ferguson during their nine years together at Old Trafford.< /p>

Their relationship seemed beyond repair when Rooney notoriously handed in a transfer request in 2010, but they eventually worked things out.

However, one of Ferguson's last acts as United boss was to reveal that Rooney asked to leave the club again in 2013 - a claim the player denied.

Pierre Schmeichel

Schmeichel left the club in 1999 after helping them win the famous treble, but his United career spanned nearly five years prior.

The goalkeeper was effectively sacked in 1994 after a massive row with Ferguson following a 3-3 draw with Liverpool, and he asked his agent to find him a new club.

"I couldn't do anything for the goals and I played very well," said Schmeichel. "But after the game he came straight at me because my goal kicks had been straight down the middle and Neil Ruddock had aimed them straight to the back.

"I didn't think that was fair. We ended up having a massive, massive row. The more we said to each other, the worse it got.

"Obviously I crossed the line. The next day I was called up and he said, 'Listen, I have to fire you. I can't tolerate my players talking to me like that. goes against my authority.'"

Luckily for United fans, the pair ironed out their differences the next day and Schmeichel won four more Premier League titles at Old Trafford.

Paul Ince

Ince was a key part of Ferguson's first major United team, but he demanded to be called 'The Guv'nor' by his teammates and his ego angered the manager.

They had a frosty relationship and Ferguson blamed the former England captain for a 4-0 Champions League loss to Barcelona in 1994.

Sir Alex then sold Ince to Inter Milan a few months later and when he returned to the Premier League with Liverpool, his former manager called him "Charlie from the start".

Ruud van Nistelrooy

Van Nistelrooy eventually moved to United in 2001, and he went on to become one of the most prolific strikers in their history, scoring 150 goals in 219 appearances.
