Sex scandal: Pastor Suleman finally reacts to Halima Abubakar's allegations

On Thursday, Nigerian cleric, Johnson Suleman of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide finally reacted to several sex allegations made against him by Nollywood actress, Halima Abubakar.

For endless months, the famous former actress accused the controversial cleric of reneging on his promise to marry her and said he was overdue with an undisclosed fatal illness that had plagued her for years .

She alleged that Mr. Suleman had sex with several actresses, including Shan George and Iyabo Ojo, a claim that the cleric and his masters ignored.

Ms Abubakar, who started acting in 2001 when she had a minor role in 'Rejected', has revealed she had an affair with the preacher because he told her he was divorced with three children.

On Instagram, she said her life was in danger and that her cleric should be held accountable for whatever happened to him.

"Don't worry about me. But you can hold Johnson Suleman responsible, just in case.

"There's nothing you can do, though. Nigerians know about it. If anything happens Johnson, it's you," the 37-year-old actress wrote on Instagram.

Notice of Cease and Desist

Mr. Suleman, through her legal representatives, Ephesus Lex Attorneys & Solicitors, has issued the actress with a cease and desist notice.

A cease and desist notice is a warning letter sent to an alleged wrongdoer outlining the alleged misconduct and demanding that the alleged wrongdoing be stopped.

The notice was in response to the actress' alleged defamation of the pastor and some of his colleagues whom she accused of having sex with him.

Apostle Suleman's legal representative, Rodney Adzuanaga, told PREMIUM TIMES that they served the notice on Ms. Abubakar due to her previous defamatory comments about the Apostle.

“Comments that have been in the public space for a while. He recently resurfaced. Based on that, we issued him a cease and desist notice,” he said .

He added that failure to comply would result in a civil action against her.

"Whether there will be a public complaint to the police or other law enforcement agencies is beyond our control.

"We hope she listens to the voice of reason. If she doesn't, we will extend our actions to a subpoena against her," he added.

In the notice signed by Mr. Adzuanaga, the cleric accused Ms. Abubakar of posting malicious, defamatory and degrading statements about the apostle on several microblog sites, primarily Gistlover.

The letter, a copy of which has been made available to this newspaper, states that the defamatory statements posted by Ms. Abubakar on her Instagram account not only attribute evilness to the Apostle, but also to his responsibility, whatever regardless of the medical condition she suffers from.

He says the statements are untrue, false, malicious, defamatory, baseless and a tool to blackmail Apostle Suleman while reducing him in the eyes of responsible and well-meaning members of society.

“We therefore request that you cease publishing said defamatory statements or any other statements and/or publications aimed at damaging the reputation of our client,” he said.

Other requests

As well as refraining from making further comments, he said Ms Abubakar must publish a retraction of her earlier statements in five national dailies within three days of Thursday.

They also demanded that she deliver a letter to the Apostle stating her full assurance and pledging to refrain from publishing prior and subsequent defamatory statements against her.

She must also reimburse him for all costs incurred to defend and protect his reputation.

Despite the notice, the numerous allegations are still visible on the actress's Instagram page, which has 1 million followers.

Background

This is not the first time Apostle Suleman has taken legal action against his accusers.

In 2018, Nigerian singer Stephanie Otobo claimed he had engaged in immoral acts with her.

Following the allegations, the Nigerian singer based in Canada was arrested by the cleric and spent a few days in Kirikiri prison.

Ms Otobo, whom the feisty cleric accused of blackmail, threatening life, conspiracy and intent to rob him in 2017, resumed her damning accusations backed by what she described as receipts.
