Organized by a non-governmental organization – the Lagos Food Bank Initiative – the walkathon aims to meet the growing demand for food in marginalized areas of Lagos State.

Speaking at the event, LFBI Executive Director Michael Sunbola said the walkathon aims to address the problem of hunger and malnutrition in society. He said: “What we are doing here is raising awareness of the work we have done over the past eight years and, more importantly, keeping children in school. One of the biggest problems we face today is the number of out-of-school children. Nigeria ranks among the top three countries with the highest number of out-of-school children. Food insecurity and hunger are important factors in school dropout. As the cost of living and food continues to rise, we have taken action by creating a food bank to bridge the gap and keep children in school. Leveraging the influence of celebrities is crucial for us, as they have the platforms to reach a wider audience. »
