Social media critic Mohammed apologizes to Aisha Buhari

A social media critic and 500-level student at Federal University of Dutse, Jigawa State, Aminu Mohammed, has apologized for criticizing First Lady Aisha Buhari after his release.

The Department of State Services, otherwise known as the State Security Services, arrested Mohammed for a social media post deemed defamatory against the First Lady.

Meanwhile, on June 8, 2022, Mohammed allegedly accused Aisha Buhari of feeding on fat from the Nigerian Treasury.

He berated the First Lady in Hausa, saying in a tweet, "Su mama anchi kudin talkawa ankoshi", translated as "Mother got fat eating the money of the masses."

However, Muhammed's friends said he posted this message because he was frustrated with the protracted university strike that lasted more than eight months across the country.

Following his action, the final year student was arrested and remanded in custody before being released on Friday evening after Ms Buhari withdrew the charges against him.

Expressing his joy after the release, Mohammed took to his Twitter account to apologize, he wrote: "I would like to use this medium to express my sincere apologies to those I have wounded, especially our mother, Aïcha Buhari.

"It was never my intention to hurt your feelings and Insha Allah I will change for the better. However, I am also grateful for your forgiveness, thank you mum," he added .
