Soludo prohibits the movement of cattle on foot in Anambra

The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has banned the movement of livestock on foot in all parts of Anambra State.

Soludo, who met with members of the Anambra State Livestock Threat Committee at Government House, Awka, over the weekend, said the ban was in line with the Anti-Bullying Act. state's 2021 open pasture, adding that enforcement would begin from September.

"Now that we have a law prohibiting open grazing, law enforcement officers have been tasked with enforcing it.

“Although the law has been in place for nearly a year, cattle ranchers continue to march in some areas of the state in violation of the law,” Soludo said.

Former state governor Willie Obiano had given his assent to the bill to ban free grazing and establish ranches of cattle and other farmed animals in the state from Anambra in 2021, but did not enforce the ban.

Soludo, during the meeting, said his administration would ensure implementation of the law by September.

He applauded the members of the Anambra State Livestock Threat Committee for their dedication to duty, saying the people of Anambra have largely lived in harmony with the herdsmen, but the herdsmen must lead their activities within the framework of the laws in force.
