Three dead in Bauchi police, shootout between kidnappers

Two suspected kidnappers and a vigilante were killed in a shootout with a team of security officers in Toro Local Government Area, Bauchi State.

An unknown number of suspected kidnappers escaped with gunshot wounds during the encounter between police officers attached to the Tulu division and a vigilante group in the area.

Bauchi State Command Public Relations Officer Ahmed Wakil said so in a statement made available to state reporters on Thursday.

He said intelligence reports available to Tulu Division Police indicated that suspected kidnappers blocked the Tulu-Rishi road on August 26, 2022 and abducted an Alhaji Alhassan Gambo from Anguwan Bawa in the State of Kaduna and shot dead an Alh Mujitafa Usman of Funtua LGA Katsina State who was on a business trip in the area.

He added that upon receiving the information, the divisional police officer mobilized his men and the vigilante to pursue the suspects.

According to him, the team intercepted the suspected kidnappers at Doka Auwalu Mountain in Toro LGA, and engaged them in a shootout that killed two of them (kidnappers), adding that it was in the process that one of the self-defense members was also killed.

He said three kidnapped victims were rescued by the team unharmed.

The police spokesperson said: "As part of our commitment to suppressing criminal elements, on August 27, 2022 at approximately 9:00 p.m., credible intelligence available at Tulu Divisional Police Headquarters on the activities of the kidnappers alleged, that on August 26, 2022, alleged kidnappers blocked the Tulu-Rishi road.

“They kidnapped an Alh Alhassan Gambo from anguwan Bawa, Kaduna State and shot dead an Alh Mujitafa Usman from Funtua LGA, Katsina State, who was on a business trip to Tulu.< /p>

"Later, on August 28, 2022, a combined police team led by the Tulu Division Divisional Police Officer and a vigilante set out to comb their enclave on intelligence report.

"On August 29, 2022, suspected kidnappers were intercepted at Doka Auwalu Mountain of Tama ward Toro LGA, quickly engaged in a gun duel, following a hot exchange of firepower officers, two of the suspects were neutralized on the spot, while others were overpowered and rushed in disarray with gunshot wounds into the nearby forest.

"Sadly, a vigilante member paid a supreme price in the process.

"As a result, the officers managed to rescue the following victims: Alh Alhassan Gambo, male (60) from Anguwan Bawa Kaduna State; Badamasi Saadu and Abdullahi Sani.

“The aforementioned victims were rescued by the officers unharmed and later reunited with their families after a medical examination.”

Wakil said that after intense tracking and surveillance in the area, two suspects were apprehended during the operation and were found wandering aimlessly in the area.

He said an investigation was underway to establish their connection or otherwise to the alleged kidnappers.

“While congratulating the officers, the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Mamman Sanda, also sympathized with the family of the vigilante member who sacrificed his life while protecting the lives and property of citizens,” he said. he declared.

Similarly, the PPRO further stated that detectives attached to the Command's Rapid Response Brigade, led by the Commander, arrested 22 youths, mostly teenagers, who belong to a notorious group of thugs .

He said that the thugs who were heavily armed with dangerous weapons attacked members of a vigilante in the Bakin Kura district of Bauchi metropolis.

According to him, the suspects inflicted serious injuries on two members of the group.

He said, “On August 30, 2022 at approximately 1:00 p.m., intelligence was available to command. On the same day, at around 12:35 p.m., a group of notorious thugs attacked members of the Bakin Kura Peace and Security Committee office, armed with cutlass, knives, sticks and other dangerous weapons, thus inflicting without mercy severe injuries to the following committee members, namely: Danladi Suleiman (32 years old) and Yakubu Ibrahim (42 years old).

"After receiving the information, a team of detectives led by Commander Rapid Response Squad (RRS) quickly responded to the scene and successfully arrested twenty-two (22) male suspects."

He gave the names of the suspects: Aliyu Adamu, alias U'U (15) from Bakaro; Ukasha Abubakar aka Ukasha Yaro (20) from Kofar mukaddas; Abdulmalik Abdullahi aka Abba Juga (18) from Kandahar; Nura Inuwa alias yellow (17 years old) from Bakaro; Umar Abdullahi aka Faruq (18) from Malan Goje; Mohammed Koli alias uncle (18 years old); Umar Sulaiman alias Babaji (23 years old) and Ibrahim Idris alias Iri (15 years old).
