Souness confident Liverpool star will be 'outstanding success' but Klopp thinks he 'needs time'

Graeme Souness is confident Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez will be 'outstanding success' after leaving Benfica.

Liverpool were forced to revise their attack this summer as Sadio Mane made it clear after their Champions League final defeat that he wanted to leave.

The Senegalese international got his wish as he joined Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich for around £34million.

The 12 new rules coming for the new Premier League season

As they always do, Liverpool have moved quickly to move their business forward this summer. Watch and learn Man Utd.

Calvin Ramsay and Fabio Carvalho were recruited with Nunez. The Uruguay international is their star signing as he joined them for a fee of up to £85m.

The striker was criticized prematurely after failing to score in some pre-season games.

He quickly silenced his doubters by scoring four goals in a friendly against RB Leipzig.

Nunez followed that up with a promising display against Man City in the Community Shield.

The 23-year-old scored Liverpool's third goal in the 3-1 win and he also won the penalty scored by Mohamed Salah.

The Reds start their 2022/23 season against Fulham on Saturday afternoon.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp suggested Nunez isn't guaranteed to start at Craven Cottage:

"Darwin is ready but that doesn't mean he has to start. I don't know about that. We still have different options," Klopp said (via The Underground).

"He needs time to get used to a lot of things. He's already a real help. It went really fast. It was a real pre-season training session for him, the first match.

“He said himself that he was nervous at first. .

"He made an impact, but the work won't stop there. He's in the best possible place."

Liverpool are hoping Nunez will get into the league, especially with Erling Haaland signing Man City.

Club legend Souness is optimistic about Nunez as he thinks the young striker is a 'great addition':

"The boy, Nunez, I think he will be an outstanding success," Souness told talkSPORT (via Liverpool Echo).

"In terms of height and he wants to run off the ball, I think he will be a great addition."
