Spanish locals are spotted laying down their towels in prime spots on the Costa Blanca beach before dawn - as a study reveals, Brits love to hit the sun loungers by the pool first early risers from Torrevieja began to set up on the beach around 5:30 a.m. standing up while it was still dark to claim the best sunbeds

Spanish locals have been spotted before dawn dropping their towels in a prime location on a beach on the Costa Blanca - because holidaymakers are getting up earlier and earlier to ask for deckchairs.

On Thursday, the early risers of Torrevieja proudly planted their flags in the sand before the sun even rose.

They started moving in at 5.30am just after the council cleaners finished their night shift, as similar scenes also took place just over an hour's drive to the popular holiday resort of Benidorm.

A resident stuck his parasol - in the red and yellow of the Spanish national flag - in the sand and put his deckchair next to it before disappearing.

Another even planted a mini Spanish flag in the top of his parasol - and stood beside it, arms crossed in front of him like s he was defending his territory against foreign marauders.
