Square makes Tap to Pay on iPhone available to all US sellers

Square has publicly launched its Tap to Pay solution for iPhone after launching an early access program in recent months. This means that sellers across the United States can now use the company's Point of Sale app to receive payments from customers using only their iPhone, wherever they are. Of course, they need to have a newer iPhone (the oldest model that can run the feature is iPhone 11), but they don't need to buy any additional hardware to access the feature.

As with any other POS system, sellers simply register the sale on Square's app, then ask the customer to pay using contactless or Apple credit and debit cards Pay and other digital wallets. Square hopes the solution could provide even small merchants with an easy way to do business in person. In its announcement, the company also addressed a potential security issue and said that Apple does not store card numbers on sellers' device or on its servers.

Square first announced that it would support Apple's Tap to Pay on iPhones, which the tech giant was seen testing at its Welcome Center in May, in June. It opened its early access program at the same time to give select sellers and retailers a chance to try it out. One of the attendees said it made his company better accommodate younger customers who preferred to pay with their digital wallets and contactless cards.
