A Chinese state-funded artificial intelligence (AI) company recently announced the launch of "Spark Model", an AI system designed to directly compete with OpenAI's ChatGPT.

The launch by the company, iFlytek, took place at a technology event in Hefei called "Spark Desk" and featured a full demonstration of the new system's capabilities.

According to a translation provided by Bing, iFlytek founder and chairman Liu Qingfeng told attendees at the event that the Spark model, also known as the "grand cognitive model", represented "the dawn of general artificial intelligence".

While there is no scientific consensus on whether artificial general intelligence (also known as artificial general intelligence or AGI) is even possible using current machine learning techniques, the mogul tech billionaire offered a comparison with ChatGPT and a timeline for updates:
