Strictly's Amy Dowden Has Second Cancer Diagnosis: 'You Can't Stop Me Dancing'

Amy Dowden updated her followers on her cancer journey, but revealed she had to deal with a second diagnosis in recent weeks. The 'Strictly Come Dancing' star announced her breast cancer diagnosis in May after discovering a breast lump a month prior. Now she has revealed she will undergo chemotherapy after doctors discovered more tumors.

Dowden launched an Instagram Live video with breast cancer survivor and Paralympian Erin Kennedy on July 21 on behalf of breast cancer charity CoppaFeel!, explaining the conversations that followed her MRI and its mastectomy.

The 32-year-old said, "For me, my journey changed everything. Initially, I was going to have a lumpectomy, radiation therapy and hormone therapy." She continued, "They found another type of cancer, then they told me I needed chemo - for me, that was a big blow."

While another diagnosis — which she didn't go into detail about — "wasn't planned," Dowden said her oncologist said "with chemo, I have very good chance of recovery. She added, according to ITVX: "For me right now [it was] just my dancing. You can take my boobs away from me, but you can't take my dancing away from me."

The entertainer had planned to return to the dance competition later this year, but that has been put on hold while she undergoes treatment. She began her treatment for breast cancer last month, posting a photo from her hospital bed on June 7, smiling and with two thumbs up. "First step to beating cancer! Rrrrrready for this fight and more determined than ever to get back on the dance floor," she captioned the post.

Friends flocked to his comments with support and love. Tom Fletcher, who was partnered with Dowden on the reality show in 2021, wrote, "Sending you all the love today. We Fletchers are right behind you. X" while fellow dancers professionals, including Giovanni Pernice and Gorka Marquez, have added heart emojis. .

The star broke the news of her diagnosis to her followers on May 24 via an Instagram post. "Hi everyone, I have some news that is not easy to share," the statement began. "I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, but I'm determined to get back on that dance floor before you know it. Welsh love, Amy x".

The professional dancer was thrust into the limelight when she joined 'Strictly Come Dancing' in 2017, and has since become a fan favorite. She came second in 2019 with famous TV presenter Karim Zeroual. and most recently was paired with actor James Bye in the latest series.
