The Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State, said it has put in place all necessary measures to equip the medical facilities at the institution following the death of a student last week.

A 500-level university student, Ayomide Akeredolu, reportedly collapsed and died at the university's health center on Friday. Angered by the incident, students at the facility staged a protest, alleging that the campus hospital lacked amenities, resulting in the student's death.

Speaking to our development correspondent on Monday, the university's director of institutional communication, Mr. Adegbenro Adebanjo, said that all the demands of the protesting students had been met and that the health center had started to function properly.

The FUTA spokesperson said: “It is important to emphasize that the protest was not directly related to the death of the student. However, due to some fears about the services of the university health center, students have embarked on protests. »

During the protest, one of the students claimed that "the (Ayomid) student collapsed while at his hostel (Akindeko residence) and was rushed to University Health (a proposed university hospital). , due to the lack of basic amenities, he lost his life in the university clinic.”

Another student, who claimed to be one of those who rushed the deceased to hospital, said: "We rushed this guy to the health center around 8:30 p.m., when we arrived, there was a noise. power outage, and during all the oxygen set up, CPR and injections they gave him the light didn't come back on, we had to use our flashlights, hard to believe that there is no emergency power supply in the hospital. »
