Crisis in Sudan: Sokoto government takes steps for safe return of students

The Sokoto State government has reaffirmed that it has taken concrete steps to return its students studying in Sudan safely to their parents.

State Commissioner for Information and Social Reorientation, Muhammad Akibu Dalhatu, said so in a press release issued Monday to state reporters.

“Following the Khartoum crisis as well as the entrapment of foreign students from different countries including Nigeria, the Sokoto State government under the leadership of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has taken all necessary measures for the safety of Sokoto State students and their subsequent return home”

He said the Governor is in constant contact with the Minister of Foreign Affairs regarding the arrangement to secure transportation and security coverage to evacuate the students to the nearest border as quickly as possible. .

"The state government would like to inform all parents of students that their wards are well protected and in good health and will be home soon.

“The Sokoto State Scholarship Board is also in hourly contact with the management of state students, both scholarship and self-sponsored in Sudan.

"The students, numbering about 120, are under the supervision of the Nigerian Embassy and an appointed Sokoto State agent in Khartoum.

Students will be moved after obtaining clearance and establishing the necessary protocol and arrangements at all times from now on.”
