A 40-year-old man, Ibrahim Umar, has been arrested for allegedly killing two casual workers at Taranka village in Gamawa Local Government Area of ​​Bauchi State in ritual purposes.

Wakil, a police superintendent, said the suspect was quickly arrested by police when they received the report of the incident.

He said the state Commissioner of Police, Auwal Muhammad, condemned the gruesome killing of the two casual workers and appealed for calm.

He warned the people of the state to desist from publishing unverified stories on social media, which could cause chaos in the society, assuring that justice would take its course.

“On September 10, 2023, at about 9:58 a.m., one Adamu Mohammed, male (57 years) of Taranka village, Gamawa LGA, Bauchi State, reported to the Divisional Police Headquarters from Gamawa that about a month ago, one Kabiru Idi, a man (36 years old) and Bato Ali, a man (18 years old), both from the same address, were missing.

“One Ibrahim Umar, a 40-year-old man from Dankunkuru village, Ungogo LGA of Kano State, who came to the said Taranka village for charcoal trading, was suspected of 'having perfected the kidnapping and disappearance of the above-mentioned people.< /p>

“Upon receipt of the report, a team of detectives was quickly dispatched to the scene and eventually arrested the suspect.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to killing and burying the two casual workers in a shallow grave on the outskirts of the town. Accordingly, the required coroner's form was completed and the bodies were exhumed from the said grave for discreet investigation. These bodies were established as those of missing persons and are certified dead by a doctor.

“Subsequently, the Command handed over the corpses to the relatives so that they could be buried according to their respective religious rites. Investigation further revealed that the accused had killed the two persons with the intention of making ritual profit from their dead bodies,” the CP said.

Wakil further said that a search of the suspect's home led to the discovery of human blood.
