Chief of the Defense Staff, General Lucky Irabor, said those responsible for the Owo attacks had been arrested.

Some gunmen had stormed St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Ondo State, killing as many as 40 worshippers.

The federal government, however, said Islamic State terrorists in the West Africa Province were behind the attack.

During a meeting with editors and media officials in Abuja on Tuesday, the Chief of Defense Staff confirmed that the attackers of Owo had been apprehended.

Irabor said the suspects would be paraded after an investigation into the case is concluded.

He said: "During the last time we met, we recorded remarkable achievements. Let me point out to you that during the same period, there were despicable actions of men of the underworld who have encroached on our collective well-being, namely the unfortunate train attack, the attack on the Kuje Correctional Center as well as what has been reported in the past the attack on the presidential convoy.

"Also, the Owo incident which was intended to get the men and women of the armed forces to portray them in a form that makes the nation look like it is under siege. We have arrested those who are in the origin of Owo's despicable act.

“I had intended to present them to the public, but due to the still ongoing investigation, I had to change my mind. I would like to say that in due time the world will see them as well as others who are behind other audacious attacks in the country."
