Take precautions when visiting Abuja, Ghana advises citizens

The Republic of Ghana has issued a travel advisory for its citizens traveling to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration made this known in its latest security update on Abuja on Wednesday.

According to Ghana, the travel warning has become necessary due to the highly unpredictable security situation in the national capital.

The travel warning follows a security alert issued a few weeks ago by the US, UK, Canada and other countries warning that terrorists may launch attacks in Abuja.

The Ghanaian government has advised its citizens to take precautionary measures while traveling, noting that it will continue to monitor the security situation.

The notice read: "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration wishes to inform the traveling public of security developments in Abuja, Nigeria and the subsequent directive from local authorities to hotels operating in residential buildings to close.

"As a result, the public are advised to avoid non-essential travel to Abuja, due to the unpredictable security situation in the city and the high risk of terrorism, crime, inter-communal conflict, armed attacks and kidnappings.< /p>

"While advising travelers who must travel to Abuja out of necessity to take precautionary measures, the ministry will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates to the public when the situation improves."
