The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations in Katsina State is on Wednesday calling on the Federal Government to justify the money spent on security by ensuring the lives and property of Nigerians are safe.

The coalition made the request in reaction to the death on Tuesday of the commander of the Dutsinma region, ACP Aminu Umar, during a duel with terrorists.

The coalition, in a statement by its Katsina chairman, Abdulrahman Abdullahi, lamented the death of the police zone commander, insisting that the incident speaks volumes about the shortcomings of Nigeria's security system.

The statement reads: "It is troubling that the government's failure to provide our security officers with working tools and to hunt bandits to their enclaves continually results in the loss of valiant officers like ACP Aminu Umar and other innocent Nigerians.

"The bandits are gradually getting stronger and bolder day by day. The fight must be fought in their enclaves using ground and air forces. But unfortunately, the air force and army do not strike with the necessary force. You will see fighter jets flying in the sky, but when you ask for victims, you can not see any. Bandits attack innocent people a few kilometers from military bases but no intervention.

”Money is spent daily on security, but the situation is getting worse every day. It is high time for the President and the National Assembly to start asking themselves why there are not commensurate results for the investment in security. This senseless murder must stop. »

Meanwhile, Katsina Police Commissioner Idris Dauda led the State Police Command leadership team to Kurfi town on Wednesday for the burial of ACP Aminu Umar who was ambushed and killed by terrorists in Safana local government area of the state on Tuesday.

The solemn Islamic burial was also attended by high-level police officers as well as the base which mainly belonged to the Katsina command.

Command spokesman Gambo Isah said the area commander was killed along with an unnamed officer in the line of duty.

He said: "On Tuesday, July 6, 2022 at approximately 11:30 a.m., a distress call was received indicating that terrorists numbering more than three hundred (300), on motorcycles, were firing sporadically with AK 47 rifles and General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), ambushed ACP Aminu Umar, Area Commander, Dutsinma and his team while clearing recalcitrant bandits/terrorists, Zakka Forest, Government Area Safana local in Katsina State.

"As a result, the area commander and another bravely lost their lives in an exchange of fire."
