The 2022-23 Premier League first half table: Liverpool bottom…

Football matches have been 90 minutes since Victorian times; and there are one or two top Premier League managers who will be glad games aren't over after the first half.

Although the season has less than 10 games, there have already been plenty of thrills and twists as England's top clubs have produced gripping football.

But all Premier League managers will agree on the importance of starting games quickly - or, at least, not slowly - which makes the half-time table for this season's top flight extremely interesting.

As Arsenal and Manchester City continue to set the tone, Liverpool's problems are laid bare; they would be lowest in the Premier League if games lasted only 45 minutes.

On the other hand, Leicester City would nestle in a European berth if matches were only half the regular time, giving Brendan Rodgers, who has seen his side lose leads with alarming regularity, something to chew.

Nottingham Forest, who struggled in their first Premier League season in the 21st century, would also fare much better if the referees weren't so demanding to start the second half. But Chelsea and Manchester United would fare slightly worse under these new rules.

We crunched the numbers to come up with the 2022-23 Premier League table if matches were just 45 minutes long.
