At the end of the second episode of the third season of "The Mandalorian", Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) reaches the white waters of the mines of Mandalore with the help of Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) and Grogu (alias Baby Yoda). He intends to bathe in it to atone for his transgression: to remove his mask, an absolute no-no under the Path he follows.

He is visibly happy to have arrived there, but when he begins the ritual that would purify him, he is sucked underwater. Bo-Katan dives after him, finds him at the bottom of the water, and carries him to the surface. But not before seeing what attacked him - the Mythosaurus. The Mythosaurus is a legendary beast tied to the very existence of Mandalorians, and it looks like that means some really big changes are coming for all Mandalorians - and for Din. Ahead, we break down what a mythosaur is, why Bo-Katan didn't tell Din about it right away, and what it means for "The Mandalorian" season three.

Bo-Katan also gives more context just before Mando enters the whitewater. She reads a plaque that reads: "These mines date back to the age of the first Mandalore. According to ancient folklore, the mines were once a lair of Mythosaur. Mandalore the Great is said to have tamed the mythical beast. It is of these legends that the sign of the skull was adopted and became the symbol of our planet."

When Bo-Katan sees the Mythosaur in the waters, alive, she is shocked. It looks like Mando passed out and didn't see him.

What is the importance of the mythosaur in season 3 of "The Mandalorian"?

As Bo-Katan reminds Mando during the episode, Mandalore was crushed by the Empire in what became known as the Great Purge of Mandalore (and Moff Gideon was a key player in the demise of the planet). Combining the Armorer's Prophecy and Bo-Katan's Plate, it seems that the person who will rule Mandalore is on the way, and the planet may begin to regain some of its former glory, bringing peace to the Mandalorians.

Of course, the question is who this person is. Mando has the Darksaber - which is traditionally associated with...
