The Real Reason Noa Went to Juvie in 'Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin'

With the release of the highly anticipated 'PLL' spin-off, 'Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin', viewers are introduced to a brand new setting and characters. This time around, the main Liars team consists of Spirit Queen Imogen (Bailee Madison), six months pregnant; movie buff Tabitha "Tabby" (Chandler Kinney); prima ballerina Faran (Zaria Simone); socially awkward Minnie "Mouse" (Malia Pyles); and track star Noa (Maia Reficco), who has just returned to Millwood from her time in a juvenile detention center. While everyone has their own well-kept past - the undisclosed identity of Imogen's baby's father and Faran's secret scoliosis diagnosis - Noa's secret is different, because it's not his. /p>

When Noa returns home from her time in prison, it is revealed that she has been arrested for drug use. After her release, she must wear an ankle monitor, perform community service and report to her school nurse daily with a routine urine test to check that she remains clean. Noa is naturally overwhelmed by the restrictions imposed on her for a year and must think ahead before getting involved in potentially problematic situations. When "A" swaps Noa's drug test sample and it comes back positive for weed, she has another strike against her. This greatly worries her boyfriend, Shawn (Alex Aiono), who thinks Noa has relapsed. The couple argue over the misunderstanding, which leads Noa to reveal a big secret she's been keeping all this time.

Noa confides in Shawn that she has never used drugs in her life. The night she was arrested for drug possession, she was actually covering for her mother, Marjorie (Elena Goode), who could lose her job and her entire life if caught on drugs. The scene then cuts to a fleeting flashback to the night Noa is led away by Sheriff Beasley as her mother watches.

While it's understandable that Noa wants her mother to be safe, Shawn is understandably baffled by how Marjorie was able to let her daughter take her place. Although the exact circumstances that led Marjorie to ask Noa to take the rap for her misdeeds are yet to be fully revealed, could this be a clue to the many secrets that Marjorie and the rest of the mothers are hiding (like what would have could have led to Angela's decision to jump off the rafters on rave night?).
