The three exercises will carry the flag to address security challenges in Nigeria – COAS

Army Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya revealed that three announced exercises, namely Exercises Still Waters, Golden Dawn and Enduring Peace, are aimed at addressing security challenges in across the country.

The Army COAS made this known in a statement signed by Brigadier General, Onyema Nwachuku, Director of Army Public Relations and made available to journalists.

The drills were posted today Tuesday, October 18, 2022.

He explained that the drills, which aim to alleviate security concerns in the South-South, Southeast, South-West and Central-North, are to be held simultaneously across the country.

COAS said the exercises were specifically designed to address security challenges specific to their areas of responsibility in the respective regions.

The Army Chief noted, “The exercises involved team operations with other security services and agencies including the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Police Nigerian Service, Department of State Services, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps among others.

"The synergy between departments and agencies will provide them with the opportunity to bring their specific skills to operations."

Gen. Yahaya further stated that each exercise will address issues unique to their areas of responsibility.

COAS also expressed optimism that by the end of the exercises, the troops would have created a more peaceful and harmonious atmosphere for celebration and the conduct of violent free elections.

He warned, however, that the troops must remain apolitical and not get derailed.

According to the statement earlier, the Chief of Operations (Army), Major General Tunde Akinjobi, said that kinetic and non-kinetic approaches would be taken to make the exercises friendly to law-abiding citizens.

He called for the cooperation of members of the public to enhance the achievement of the desired end states of the exercises.
