Tinubu Muslim post, political strategy – Fayemi tells CAN, Christians

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State said the All Progressives Congress, APC, opted for a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket based on political strategy.

Fayemi said the Muslim-Muslim APC presidential ticket was not aimed at undermining Christians but was based on political strategy.

He took the floor welcoming the new leaders of the Ekiti State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, led by its President, Emmanuel Aribasoye.

APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu has chosen Kashim Shettima, a Muslim from the north, as his running mate, against Nigerian agitations.

CAN had criticized the decision, pointing out that APC was undermining Christians in the country.

However, Fayemi urged Christians to get more involved in politics.

“I have spoken to both the presidential candidate and other party leaders that we need to take quick action that we should have taken sooner, by approaching Christendom leaders and explaining the context of the selection that was about to happen.

"Even if they disagreed with our choice, they would have seen the sincerity of the objective and would have understood that the decision was not based on skill because we have competent Christians in everything Nigeria, but on strategic political grounds, that's what we do in politics.

"We have to look at scenarios and figure out where the votes would come from, it's a numbers game.

"I think it's time for Christians to move away from the theology of disengagement - the idea that politics is dirty and not for a child of God."
