Tinubu's N53 per palliative day, way to embezzle public funds, buy votes - Atiku's assistant

Phrank Shaibu, Special Assistant for Public Communications to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has described President Bola Tinubu's plan to distribute 8,000 naira to 12 million households for six months as a brazen attempt to embezzle public funds.

Shaibu, in a statement on Thursday, noted that Tinubu's plan to spend $800 million on palliatives under an opaque deal was reminiscent of former President Muhammadu Buhari's conditional cash transfer and the COVID-19 response initiative that saw politicians keep food items and provisions in their homes while the poor went hungry.

He said Buhari's interventionist programs had only made Nigerians poorer, as shown by reports released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Atiku's assistant said, "After announcing the removal of the gasoline subsidy without proper planning, Tinubu requested approval for an $800 million loan which he says will be paid to 12 million households for six months at N8,000 for each household per month. This is a continuation of the All Progressives Congress scam.

“According to statistics, a Nigerian household in 2019 had an average of 5.06 members. So, with Tinubu’s interest-free plan, each individual in a household will receive N1,600 per month or N53 per day. do they have to do? Use the money to buy a sachet of (pure) water or a cup of boiled peanuts daily? And this is the man they say transformed the economy of the state of Lagos? It must be a joke or a more sinister attempt to embezzle public funds."

Shaibu argued that Tinubu had no clear economic policy apart from taxing Nigerians, adding that the former Governor of Lagos has been denounced as an economic illiterate.

"Tinubu boasted of 'developing Nigeria's economy' like Lagos, but it was all a scam. Statistics show that over 70% of Lagos' revenue comes from the income paid by private companies that have been in Lagos for decades due to its status as the former capital of Nigeria.

“His only plan is to tax Nigerians to death like he did in Lagos and that is why the people of Lagos rejected him in the last elections. Tinubu promised to transform the Nigerian economy into a $1 trillion saving, but it's all a scam and can never be done with his brand of "agberonomics," Atiku's assistant said.

Shaibu said Tinubu should have focused on investing money in the agricultural sector and subsidizing production and working to achieve energy security which is the backbone of boosting the desired economic growth SMEs if he was really serious about reviving the economy.

He added, "Agriculture accounts for about 30% of Nigeria's GDP. He should have invested funds in the production side of agriculture and other issues affecting crop yields. Rural areas, mostly agrarian, are plagued by insecurity. Under Tinubu's watch, more than 200 people have so far been killed. However, he seems unsure how to deal with this threat.

“The so-called palliatives that Tinubu seeks to share with the poor are just another way to divert public funds. saying workarounds, but it was never done because it's all a scam.

“Tinubu should stop trying to deceive Nigerians who are still suffering from the effect of his lackluster economic policies. »

Continuing, he noted that "There are also concerns that this plan is a reinvention of old tricks by which the APC uses public funds as a subterfuge to buy votes.

"Let no one be mistaken, the intended workaround is Trader Moni 2.0. The scheme is nothing but a means of using public funds to pursue political campaigns and goals. It is even more telling that the current impostor government is considering the move as the presidential electoral tribunal is expected to hand down a judgment in the contentious election that brought Tinubu into government. p>

"The APC is a political party that has fallen out of favor with a large majority of Nigeria, and it is no coincidence that since 2019 when the party invented the Trader Moni charade, it has also unmistakably introduces the threat of vote buying into the Nigerian body politic.
