Train Attack: Buhari and APC failed hopelessly in Nigeria – PDP

For failing to rescue the kidnapped victims of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack four months after the incident, President Muhammadu Buhari and his All Progressives Congress (APC) have let the nation down, the Democratic Party says of the Peoples (PDP) of the opposition.

The PDP also questioned the presidency and security chiefs for failing to capture the kidnappers despite the multiple videos they released bare-faced.

The party's national publicity secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said so during a press briefing on Monday.

He was reacting to a video posted by the terrorists. The video shows the gunmen beating some of the male hostages with a club and the hostages in distress calling on the Nigerian government to come to their aid.

Mr. Ologunagba said the failure of the APC to rescue the victims after 120 days proves that the government is negligent, irresponsible, reckless and completely insensitive to the pains and sufferings of citizens.

“As a group, our hearts bleed. The APC government has failed our nation irretrievably,” he said. “Under the APC, Nigeria is rapidly sliding towards a Hobbesian state where the law, order and leadership are absent and where a group of cruel, inhuman and insensitive human beings in the government have abandoned our citizens to killers, terrorists and bandits."

The recent video, he said, is a testament to the complicity and failure of the APC government to take decisive action to save the victims since the attack and a painful commentary on the continuing massacres by terrorists in various parts of the country.

“According to the video, in a brazen manner, terrorists as non-state actors boldly showed their faces, bragging, admitting and confirming their participation in the escape from Kuje prison, whose some were former detainees who were either imprisoned or awaiting trial for their previous act of terrorism against our country.”

While recalling a comment by Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai who said the government knew the plans and whereabouts of the terrorists, the PDP spokesman said said humanity and leadership was currently lacking in the country.

He further lamented that 18,000 Nigerians have been killed between 2020 and 2022 "by terrorists who continue to be emboldened by the failures and obvious complicity of the APC and upon whom the PDP has always drawn watch out".

This, the PDP said, is a direct admission of incapacity and failure on the part of the Buhari-led presidency and the APC.

The PDP is among those who have condemned the government's failure to rescue the victims of the train attacks and other victims across the country.

Earlier in the day, four hostages were freed by the terrorists while the families of the other abductees demonstrated in the federal capital, calling on the government to intervene.

About 39 victims are still being held hostage.
