'Triangle of Sadness' director Ruben Östlund to chair Cannes jury

THIS SPIRIT OF CANNES-DO: The Cannes Film Festival has appointed Swedish director Ruben Östlund as president of the jury of the next edition, which will take place from May 16 to 27.

"I am happy, proud and honored to be entrusted with the honor of president of the jury for this competition year at the Cannes Film Festival. Nowhere in the world of cinema is the anticipation so high as when the curtain goes up on the films competing at the festival," said Östlund.

“It is a privilege to be part of it, alongside the Cannes public of connoisseurs. I am sincere when I say that film culture is in its most important period. Cinema has a unique aspect – there, we watch together, and it demands more of what is shown and increases the intensity of the experience. It makes us think in a different way than when we scroll through dopamine in front of individual screens,” he added.
