Tuchel fined £35,000 and suspended one game after Chelsea-Spurs, Conte's punishment less severe

Thomas Tuchel was fined £35,000 and suspended for one game on the touchline after Chelsea's 2-2 draw with Tottenham last weekend.

Antonio Conte has been fined £15,000 after both managers admitted being charged with improper conduct following several clashes during and after the match.

Tuchel will be able to be in the dugout for Chelsea's game against Leeds United at Elland Road this Sunday as his ban has been temporarily suspended.

Big weekend: Man Utd v Liverpool, Chelsea, David Moyes, Amadou Onana

Germany's ban has been suspended until the publication of the written reasons of the independent commission which ruled on the sentences.

Tuchel and Conte clashed several times on the touchline during Sunday's London derby, with both managers sent off full-time.

“An independent regulatory commission today ordered Thomas Tuchel to be fined £35,000 and banned from the touchline for one game, and Antonio Conte to be fined £15,000 £ after respectively breaching FA Rule E3," read an FA statement.

"Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte have admitted that their behavior after the final whistle for the Premier League match between Chelsea FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC on Sunday 14 August 2022 was inappropriate, and both managers have requested a hearing on paper.

"These sanctions are subject to appeal, and Thomas Tuchel's one-match sideline ban has been temporarily suspended pending written reasons from the Independent Regulatory Commission for its decision which will be made available in a timely manner."

Conte will be free to take his place on the touchline during Saturday's midday kick-off against Wolves at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tuchel must, however, await clarification on the status of his one-match ban, as part of the new disciplinary procedure with the involvement of the independent commission.

That is sure to frustrate Leeds manager Jesse Marsch, who admitted on Friday he would be disappointed to see Tuchel on the touchline this weekend.

"He won't be there, will he? Are they saying he might be on the bench? Marsch said, ahead of the FA decision.

"That doesn't seem right, does it? If you get a red card, you're out of the game.

"I will be disappointed if they allow him to be on the bench.

“There is a simple rule in football, be it soccer or football, if you receive a red card, you cannot play the next game.”
