The music industry satire, starring Lily-Rose Depp and Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye, has been lambasted by critics when it was released.

Audiences were also unimpressed and rumors of the series being canceled began even before the airing of the finale.

HBO has now officially confirmed that The Idol will not have a second season.

A spokesperson said the series was one of her "most provocative original programs" and that she was "thrilled by the strong response from audiences."

They added that the company, creators and producers had agreed to "not proceed" with a second season, and thanked everyone involved for "their amazing work".< /p>

Many people thought The Idol was doomed when HBO cut its original six episodes to five, although the company released a statement after the finale insisting that his fate had been changed. It has not been decided.
