Twitter is being sued over Elon Musk's mass layoff plan - Lawyer says he's repeating his 'Tesla Playbook'

Tesla Inc TSLA CEO Twitter led by Elon Musk has reportedly been sued over plans to eliminate nearly half of its workforce.

What happened: The class action lawsuit was filed in San Francisco, Calif., in federal court by attorney Shannon Liss-Riordan, Bloomberg reported.

"We filed this lawsuit tonight to try to make sure that employees are aware that they should not waive their rights and that they have a way to assert their rights," the lawyer said.

Twitter plans to make layoffs on Friday, according to an email from the company seen by Bloomberg.

Why it matters: Federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) law requires that 60 days notice be given to employees before mass layoffs can be initiated by companies , noted Bloomberg.< /p>

In June, Tesla faced a class action lawsuit filed by two employees who said they had received no notice of termination. The two were laid off among a group of 500 employees at the automaker's battery plant in Nevada.

Liss-Riordan was involved in Tesla's lawsuit, where the company won a ruling from a federal judge in Austin forcing workers to pursue their claims in closed-door arbitration closed rather than in open court, Bloomberg reported.

She would have said that Musk was repeating his "playbook" of what he did at Tesla. "We will now see if he will continue to thumb his nose at the laws of this country that protect employees," Liss-Riordan said.
