Two arrested for robbing Ogun traders with toy gun

A 19-year-old man, Nweke Joshua, was arrested alongside a 29-year-old woman, Chioma Okafor, by men from the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly robbed traders with a toy gun.

The suspects were arrested last week on Friday while carrying out a robbery operation in the Adesan area of ​​Mowe in Obafemi-Owode local government.

State Police Public Relations Officer SP Abimbola Oyeyemi revealed this in a statement on Sunday.

Oyeyemi said the suspects were arrested following a distress call received at Mowe Division Headquarters around 9:30 p.m. Friday.

The PPRO said police were told armed robbers raided a grocery store owned by a Johnson Nwokoro in Safari Junction Adesan and began dispossessing the owner of daily sales .

He said "upon the distress call, Division DPO Mowe, SP Folake Afeniforo quickly mobilized the Division Patrol Team and corps men so sure to the scene where the two suspects were arrested.

"On searching them, we discovered that they had come to rob the store with toy guns that looked exactly like original guns.

"During questioning, 19-year-old Nweke Joshua informed the police that it was Chioma Okafor who had the idea to carry out the robbery operation so that they would have money.

"He added that it was Chioma who bought the two toy guns and gave him one to use for the operation.

"They went to the store and pretended to be customers, but suddenly pulled out guns and ordered the store owner to give them all the money in his possession .

"Luck ran out when the police and such sure body men arrived on the scene before they could escape."

The PPRO, however, said Police Commissioner Lanre Bankole ordered the suspects be transferred to state criminal investigation departments for a quiet investigation.
