UBA Foundation Receives Corporate Social Responsibility Leadership Award

The United Bank for Africa (UBA) Foundation has been recognized as a leader in corporate social responsibility at the 10th anniversary of the Marketing Edge Brands and Advertising Excellence Awards which recently took place held in Lagos.

Highly impactful UBA Foundation initiatives such as the annual National Essay Competition; Read Africa; Each Ensign One; the food bank, among others, are being cascaded across the African continent to reach more people each year.

Through its National Essay Competition which was launched over nine years ago, hundreds of African students have been awarded scholarships to study at tertiary institutions in Africa and the ripple effects are are being felt in their communities as more and more children have the opportunity to go to university.

Speaking on the Leadership Award presented to the UBA Foundation, the CEO of the Foundation, Ms. Bola Atta, said: “There is a lot of work to be done on the African continent to improve lives and we are doing it. let's do it one step at a time and in different countries in the geographic area where United Bank for Africa operates It is fundamental that people and organizations give back It is also very African to nurture your communities and uplift others around you. So we do what we do with a lot of passion and focus on development and maintenance."

Highlighting one of the UBA Foundation's key initiatives, the National Essay Competition, Atta thanked the organizers of the Marketing Edge Excellence Award for this recognition saying "It's good to know we're doing it right. and to remind ourselves that we need to do even more. One of my favorite initiatives at the Foundation is the National Essay Competition because I have seen with my own eyes how much it changes lives. The prize we receive is for all children in Africa who yearn for a better life.

"With the start of a new academic year, the 2022 edition of the National Essay Competition has begun and we are increasing the prizes by up to 40%. The first prize winner will now receive a scholarship of 5 million naira to study at any African university of one's choice, while the second and third prizes are now 3 million naira and 2.5 million naira respectively.This takes into account the rising cost of life. We want our students to study well, without worries, so that they can excel,” she concluded.

John Ajayi, Managing Director and Publisher of Marketing Edge, praised the UBA Foundation for its strong presence in Africa. “Through its Read Africa initiative and scholarships, the UBA Foundation has consistently done exceptionally well in transforming the lives of many people on the African continent.” These initiatives are really having an impact, he said.

Ajayi, further said that the awards were born out of the need to recognize outstanding Game Changers whose unwavering support has helped bring hope to Africa and, at the same time, foster sustainable development . “These organizations clearly understand that agility, innovation, flexibility, determination and commitment are needed to accelerate the pace of change that Africa aspires to.”

The awards evenings attracted dignitaries and business leaders from different industries across Nigeria.
