British X Factor contestant reveals she was raped while filming talent show; Hire Simon Cowell

Former UK X Factor contestant Lucy Spraggan has revealed that she was a victim of rape during her stint on the show in 2012.

At the time viewers were only told that Spraggan - one of the favorites to win the series - had suddenly left the competition due to illness. Now, on the eve of the publication of her memoir, , where she was staying during her participation in the television talent competition.

Spraggan detailed the incident, which happened after a drunken night out in London with d other competitors. After a hotel doorman helped her into her room and she passed out, the same doorman came back and raped her. He was later found through his key card record and sentenced to ten years in prison at trial the following year.

At the time, Spraggan's name was kept out of the press and, although she said she would have been happy to give up her anonymity, she was advised to keep quiet herself.

She now writes in her book, quoted by The Guardian, that she was offered every bit of support by production company Fremantle Media after the trial:

"No one ever contacted me to ask if I was okay. called or emailed when the trial was over and he was convicted. No one offered me rehab or ongoing mental health treatment. I was on my own."

Spraggan said she wrote to Fremantle Media and, although they expressed concern for her experience, denied neglecting their duty of care to her.

Fremantle Media and broadcaster ITV expressed regret over his ordeal to The Guardian.

In contrast, she praises the series' star and producer, Simon Cowell, who was working in the US during that particular series, but later apologized for not supporting her.

Cowell said in response to Spraggan's story revealed:

"What happened to Lucy was horrible and heartbreaking.

"When I had the opportunity to speak to Lucy, I was able to tell her personally how sorry I was about everything she went through.
