Unions close aviation agencies over FG plan to demolish offices

Aviation unions have locked down all aviation agencies in protest against the federal government's plan to demolish aviation agency headquarters at Murtala Muhammed Airport over the planned elevate the airport to aerotropolis status.

Following the announcement by the government, all trade unions consisting of the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Association of Air Transport Services Senior Managers of Nigeria (ATSSAN)) and the Association Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP) as early as 7 I mobilized all agency workers to organize the anti demolition rally.

Relevant agencies are; the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).

The union's position focused on why a government leaving office in six months has no right to embark on such a project knowing that it cannot be completed.

At the time of filing this report, the unions and all workers took possession of the entrances leading to the two agencies preventing workers from accessing their offices.
