US women retain top spot in FIFA rankings despite European defeats

October 14 – The United States retained their spot at the top of the FIFA rankings and ahead of the 2023 World Cup draw in Auckland, New Zealand later this month.

The October standings will decide the seeds for the final draw.

The United States have lost to England (2-1) and Spain (2-0) in the past two weeks. Below, Sweden leads Germany in the rankings while England is fourth and France fifth. Spain moved up two places to sixth.

FIFA points out that "no less than nine teams between 11th and 20th have changed position, including Belgium (20th, down 1), who suffered the biggest drop in points of the entire table (down 32 ,46).

Top performers in the rankings are Estonia (96th, up 10), who jumped ten places into the top 100, while Bangladesh (140th, up 7) moved up seven places.

With the rapid growth of women's football and international activity, the rankings have also increased with a record 187 teams now included.
