Valencia 'keep flirting' with Arsenal man and 'await' Arteta's final decision on transfer

According to reports, Valencia plan to 'maintain their flirtation' with Lucas Torreira as they 'await' Arsenal's final decision on his future.

Torreira joined Arsenal after the 2018 World Cup ended. They paid around £26m to sign him.

The midfielder was a regular for the Gunners until Mikel Arteta arrived at the end of 2019.

The Uruguayan international spent the whole of last season on loan at Serie A side Fiorentina. They were keen to sign him permanently this summer, but this transfer is no longer an option.

Valencia have now emerged as favorites to sign him from Arsenal.

Spanish outlet AS are now reporting that Valencia will 'wait' for Torreira. The player is currently in the United States with the rest of the Arsenal squad for the pre-season.

Torreira is with them 'at the request' of Arteta but he hasn't played a minute in the games yet. 'The operation' to sign him 'has stalled until Arsenal make a decision'. His contract expires in 2023.

The report adds that Valencia plan to 'maintain their flirtation' with Torreira while waiting 'for Arsenal to decide'.

Meanwhile, Emile Smith Rowe has claimed Arsenal newcomer Fabio Vieira is "very similar" to Manchester City striker Bernardo Silva.

Vieira is yet to make an appearance for Arsenal during pre-season as he recovers from a foot injury. He should be back to full fitness in the next few days.

Silva, meanwhile, was one of Man City's standout performers last season as he edged past Liverpool to retain the Premier League title.

Last week it was reported that the midfielder had agreed to join FC Barcelona in the summer for 80 million euros.

Smith Rowe praised Vieira ahead of his Arsenal debut while comparing him to the Man City player:

"He's very similar [to Silva]. He's a very good passer on the ball, his left foot is very good and he likes to create goals and score them himself," Smith Rowe said (quotes via The Daily Mail).

"I've played against him at international level before, so I can't say enough about him, and the fans should be really excited.

"In the U21 Euros, they [Portugal] beat us 2-0 and he was amazing in that game."
