Barca's last-minute €100m sale releases Lewandowski, Raphina and Dembele

August 15 - After all the noise about Barcelona struggling to register their new signings with La Liga, the club finally opened their season with a 0-0 draw against and with four of their big signings cleared to play .

New signings Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Andreas Christensen were all in the starting line-up, as was Ousmane Dembele who was already a Barca player but was on the wrong side of the registration rules.

New signing Franck Kessié was on the bench, as was Sergi Roberto who held a similar recording position to Dembele. The only new signing to miss was Jules Koundé.

It was kind of a flat end to a week of player dramas and Barca's intermittent sale of assets to meet LaLiga financial rules. This was only realized at the last minute on Friday with the sale of a third stake in its production division Barça Studios.

Having already raised €100m by selling a 24.5% stake to Socios.com and believing they had secured a further €100m from US venture capital GDA Luma, Barca have found themselves in the lurch. deadlock after US deal fell through, leaving club short of meeting LaLiga spending cap.

In the end, they were saved by a €100 million sale of that 24.5% stake to Orpheus Media, a production entity run by Mediapro co-founder Jaume Roures.< /p>

"Barcelona announce the sale of 24.5% of Barça Studios to Orpheus Media, an audiovisual production company with a long history of content production, for 100 million euros. The agreement complements the one signed on July 29 with Socios.com and will help accelerate the growth of the club's digital, NFT and Web.3 strategy," Barca said in a statement.

"With this investment, the strategic partners of Barça Studios show their confidence in the value of the project and in the future of digital content in the world of sport."

The money will be used to reduce Barca's €1.3 billion debt and payments the club need to make. It was eventually enough to bring in some big-name signings, but it didn't buy them the three points they wanted to start their season.
