Chief of the Defense Staff (CDS), Lucky Irabor, says Nigeria's Armed Forces will maintain vigilance and an aggressive posture in all ongoing operations across the country.

Mr. Irabor, a general, gave the assurance at the closing of the Defense Advisors and Attachés Conference 2022 organized by the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) on Friday in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the conference, which kicked off on Monday, was themed "Supporting Nigeria's Defense and Security: Role of the Defense Attaché System".

He also reiterated the military's commitment to work with other security agencies and constituted authorities to ensure the safety of the lives and property of all citizens.

Mr. Irabor pledged to support civil authorities to ensure a safe and secure environment for the conduct of the 2023 general elections.

He urged officers and men of the armed forces to bear in mind that democracy is essential for Nigeria, if the nation is to aspire to development and greater progress.

According to him, this, when translated into the security environment, implies that their loyalty to the powers that be must be unwavering.

"Therefore, I urge you to respect the rule of law and to remain loyal to the constituted authorities and to avoid partisan politics and acts detrimental to the interest of the nation.

"As I speak to you, I would also like to take this opportunity to extend this directive to the rest of the armed forces, that we must remain true to the powers that be and to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria

“And that they should also know that in the upcoming elections there are great expectations from Nigerians and also greater expectations from the rest of the world,” Mr. Irabor said.

He assured that the armed forces would play their part as required, not only as provided for by the constitution, but also as the INEC might want them to provide support in this regard.

“I have always stressed that we remain ready to provide support to the police who are indeed the lead security agency and therefore we are ready to provide greater support and continue to play our role in this regard.

“For operations in the various theatres, we will also maintain the vigilance and aggressive posture that we have continued to display in order to ensure the protection of the lives of citizens and of course the properties of all Nigerians,” a- he declared. .

The CDS also urged defense attachés to use their positions in the various countries of assignment to correct the poor security narratives given by foreign embassies in Nigeria.

He said the conference generated very useful deliberations and produced resolutions, as well as a review of the operational activities of the defense sector in the current year, with a view to projecting for 2023.< /p>

The CDS also expressed their belief that the attachés were better placed to contribute more effectively to the effective performance of their various sections around the world.

Mr. Irabor assured them that the government would do everything within available resources to ameliorate the challenges faced by the defense sections, to enable them to discharge their responsibilities and duties with minimum impediments.

He, however, urged them to ensure the prudent and judicious use of the resources allocated to them with a view to achieving the goals and objectives set.

Earlier, Chief of Defense Intelligence (CDI), Samuel Adebayo, a Major General, said the critical resolutions taken and captured in the conference communiqué would be forwarded to the appropriate quarters for implementation. to enhance national security.

Mr. Adebayo said the outcomes of the conference attested to the relevance of the defense adviser/attaches system in advancing Nigeria's national security and defense objectives.

He pledged that the agency would continue to leverage the defense attaché system to support ongoing armed forces engagements, particularly in the contemporary security environment.
