West Ham 1-1 Tottenham: Three things we learned

The Premier League season is well underway with all 20 clubs making a pretty interesting start to the proceedings from top to bottom. It's already starting to look like the most competitive year of top-flight action in a long time and last night we had further proof of that when West Ham United hosted Tottenham Hotspur.

The two played out a very entertaining 1-1 draw at the London Stadium and today we're going to take a look at three things we learned following the full-time whistle.

> The killer instinct

One of Tottenham's biggest problems preventing them from being true title contenders is their lack of killer instincts. Sure, they managed to get on the scoresheet here, but a lot of players seem to lack confidence in front of goal. They have a team full of talent and they've controlled the possession stats all along, but there's still a lot of work to do if they're to get past the top four prospects.

Trust is key

It's a simple but important point: trust is paramount here. West Ham United got back to winning ways this weekend and you can tell in this game they are starting to put things back together. They had plenty of shots on goal, the London Stadium was in turmoil and David Moyes wasn't afraid to take risks despite being overwhelmed for long periods without the ball.

VAR disappointment

Antonio Conte was quite vocal in his post-match interview about VAR's decision to overturn a penalty awarded to Tottenham in the first half. It took three minutes for officials to pass judgment on what happened, with Cresswell ultimately deemed to have headed the ball before it hit his arm, but the time taken alone is enough to entice those who hate the VAR system. /p>
