What I found in Peter Obi – leader Afenifere

The acting leader of the Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Ayo Adebanjo has urged supporters of Labor Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to actively participate in making him the next president of Nigeria.

Mr. Adebanjo spoke at the launch of the 157-page book, "The Challenges of Good Governance and Leadership in Nigeria: The Peter Obi Effect Factor", organized by the Alaigbo Development Foundation (ADF) .

"This is no longer a tea party. Those who are there do not want to leave but we will expel them. I want your action, do not let the opponents intimidate you, "said Mr. Adebanjo.

"Make sure you get people into the 'Obidient' movement every day. Make sure you vote as an eligible voter and make their money useless that day.

“I found in Peter Obi a person who would calm me down for a better future. Your future is in your hands and your positive action will make Peter Obi the next president,” he said.

Adebanjo's comments came days after another Afenifere leader, Reuben Fasoranti, endorsed All Progressives Congress presidential candidate Bola Tinubu.

Mr. Fasoranti, 96, resigned as national leader of Afenifere last year and gave way to Mr. Adebanjo, 94, who became the interim national leader.

Uzodinma Nwala, National President of ADF and main host of the event, said the book which was launched in honor of Mr Obi was inspired by his humility and good works.

Mr. Nwala, a professor, added that there was a need to rally and support Mr. Obi so that Nigeria's future could be in good hands.

The president of the occasion, Oluwadurotimi Olulana, said the book would help bring justice to the current situation in Nigeria.

He described Mr. Obi as a humble man and anyone who says he is faking it is wrong.

“Peter Obi is the Moses of our time. He is blessed and anointed to change all vices and I assure you that he and Datti will take us to the promised land,” he said.

Reviewing the book, Dele Farotimi, a lawyer, said the book is a model for great development and expressed the hope that the book will continue to be revised in the years to come.

He said the book also deals with how the Ndigbo look at the Nigerian state and that he intends to look at particular challenges.

"The first chapter of the book is about Peter Obi as a leader and not as a ruler. This is what he eloquently demonstrated as a charismatic leader when he was governor.

"The second chapter talks about the philosophy of good governance and leadership. Our leaders are very distant from the people but Peter Obi considers himself linked to the people and this book reminds us of that.

"People often believe that the revolution should be about violence, but it is not. Sometimes it looks like the attire Peter Obi usually puts on. Peter Obi understands the urgency and necessity to save Nigeria,” he said.

Clara Eromosele, secretary of Peter Obi Good Governance Advocate, said Mr Obi's supporters are not doing enough to own the country.

Ms Eromosele, who represented Peter Obi and Datti Baba-Ahmed at the book launch, said supporters should do more than talk but get their permanent voter (PVC) cards.

"If you don't have PVC, then volunteer to watch the polls. Don't give up and don't give in to threats, it's time to take our country back.

“To help make Nigeria even better, we must resolve to support Peter Obi beyond just winning the election,” she said.

Ms. Eromosele further urged Mr. Obi's supporters to represent him well and be good ambassadors online and offline.

Father of the Day Uma Oke Eleazu said Mr Obi is a symbol of good governance and urged all his supporters to make themselves available when voting.

Mr. Eleazu urged everyone to look after and support Peter Obi, adding that the challenges ahead of Peter Obi are formidable but not insurmountable.
