"Who Needs Mudryk?" Pundit not worried about 'fantastic' Arsenal attack after Chelsea hijack

Chris Sutton doesn't think Arsenal will regret missing out on Mykhaylo Mudryk after the Ukraine winger joined Chelsea for €100m.

Arsenal made Mudryk their first target this month and made three offers to Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Ukrainian champions were unhappy with the bonuses and terms of the deal and Chelsea rushed in with a similar overall fee, but much more realistic additions.

The overall transfer fee is expected to reach €100m (£88.5m), with the Blues adding another striker to their ranks.

It is unclear who Arsenal are chasing now after losing Mudryk.

They have been linked with a host of attacking players, including summer target Raphinha and Barcelona team-mate Ferran Torres.

Mikel Arteta's squad are pretty thin and they missed out on the top four in 2021-22 after failing to sign a new striker, and the Spaniard will be hoping to avoid a similar result this season.

Former Blackburn Rovers and Celtic striker Chris Sutton has backed Arsenal to be okay after Chelsea hijacked their deal to sign Mudryk.

Sutton wrote in his Daily Mail column: "You had an outstanding first half. Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Eddie Nketiah: all fantastic.

"When Gabriel Jesus is fit again, he will have to be at the top of his game to replace you, Eddie.

"Mykhaylo Mudryk isn't here but who needs him? You showed your superiority in that win at Spurs."

Arsenal bounced back from their failure to sign Mudryk with a convincing 2-0 win over Tottenham in the North London derby.

Sutton also discussed the Gunners' title credentials with Arteta's men eight points clear of reigning champions Manchester City.

"You may have heard it's 'your title to lose'. Pay no mind. There will be blips. It's more about how you bounce back.

“At the start of this season, the BBC asked 23 experts to choose their top four. No one had Arsenal first. Or second. Or third. not that and you just might win that."

As well as Raphinha and Torres, Arsenal have been linked with Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby.

According to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth, the Gunners have made "first contact" with the German club.

Newcastle United have also been linked with Diaby, however, Leverkusen would ask for €100m if a club made a request this month.
